Income Tax Department officials on Tuesday conducted simultaneous raids on multiple places associated with mining company SN Mohanty Group on tax evasion charges.
According to sources, the raids are underway at places including in Joda and Barbil areas in Keonjhar and Bhubaneswar.
Besides, raids are on the company's offices located in Barbil, MD Prabodh Mohanty's house at New Forest Park Colony and corporate headquarters at Forest Park in Bhubaneswar, sources informed, adding that the raid is also underway at the bauxite mine of the group.
As many as six teams of the IT department are carrying out the raids and reportedly laid its hands on some key documents and cash during the search.
The company also owns an associate office in Kolkata and IT raids also under underway in the neighbouring state, sources added.
Though the exact amount of tax irregularities is not known immediately, it is believed that it is a multi-crore tax evasion scam.
The IT department is reportedly questioning the company's MD and other senior officials in connection with the case.
As of now, there has been no official comment from the mining group over the IT department raid.
