In a shocking incident, an artisan from Bareilly who earns only Rs 400 to Rs 500 after a hard day’s work received an income tax notice for crores of rupees in arrears.

Phool Mian, a zari artisan residing at Kangi Tola area of Bareilly, located under the purview of Kila police station area of Bareilly who earns a mere Rs 400 daily from his zari work, received a notice for income tax arrears amounting to Rs 114 crore.

This notice was issued in his name for a firm registered in Delhi that recorded a turnover of Rs 232 crore over five years

In 2018, Phool Mian encountered a local individual named Guddu Sundar, also known as Uwais, who assisted unemployed individuals in securing jobs abroad. Guddu introduced Phool Mian to Nanhe, alias Suhail, who, with the promise of a job abroad, obtained Phool Mian’s Aadhaar card, PAN card, and other essential documents. Phool Mian was also made to sign some documents. These individuals, under the pretense of securing employment for him, registered a firm in his name in Delhi. This firm went on to generate a turnover of crores.

Upon receiving notice from the Income Tax Department in February, Phool Mian contacted SP City, Manush Parik. SP City, commenting on the situation, stated that this is a case of serious fraud. A fake firm was established using the name of an impoverished artisan like Phool Mian, and an illegal turnover of two billion rupees was generated.

The police have assured that all those involved in the case will be apprehended soon. If the investigation reveals the involvement of any other individuals, they will also be arrested.

The police have registered a case against the accused under charges of fraud, forgery, and preparation of fake documents. Guddu alias Uwais, Nanhe alias Suhail, and Delhi resident Asif Khan alias Abdul Razzaq were identified as primary accused in this case.

The police are conducting an investigation. They have pledged to apprehend the accused swiftly and take strict action against them.
